This session was held with the financial and technical support of the AdaptWAP project (financed by the Adaptation Fund and implemented and executed by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory), and aimed to issue recommendations and guidelines for the alignment of effective approaches to protect, secure and enhance the biodiversity of the Complex.
A final statement was signed by the members of the Council of Ministers of the three relevant countries, namely the Minister of the Environment and the Fight against Desertification of Niger, the Minister of the Quality of Life and Sustainable Development of Benin and the representative of the Minister of the Environment, Energy, Water and Sanitation of Burkina Faso, with the presence of the Heads of delegations of the European Union, the WASF and the OSS as well as the Steering Committee members.
The High Authorities of the three countries made the commitment to establish the Executive Secretariat of the WAP Complex and foster the creation of national management units of the Multi-Risk Early Warning System (MR/EWS).
The OSS appreciates the outcomes of the meeting that was held thanks to the mobilization of all stakeholders and national partners of the three relevant countries.
On this occasion, the OSS Executive Secretary officially handed over the WAP Complex climate change adaptation plan to the members of the Council of Ministers.
