The OSS takes part in the 16th Session of the CoP on Biodiversity in Cali, October 20-31, 2024

The Sahara and Sahel Observatory will be present in the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties on Biodiversity, which will be held in Cali, Colombia, due on October 20-31, 2024. This international event will bring together global stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

On the sidelines of this Conference, the OSS will participate, host and co-organize several key events:

  • October 22, 2024: Participation in the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) day, with the moderation of a session dedicated to national biodiversity strategies. This session will provide an opportunity to discuss and analyze solutions to overcome obstacles to the integration of biodiversity, in line with the objectives of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
  • October 23, 2024: Organization of the official OSS Side event on "Strengthening the implementation of NBSAPs using technological and scientific tools for Ecosystem Natural Capital Accounting". This event will explain how new ecosystem accounting indicators and technological tools can strengthen NBSAPs as implementation instruments.
  • October 24, 2024: Co-organization of a side event on the regional support centers for the Global Biodiversity Framework: "Strengthening regional collaboration for biodiversity conservation in Africa: A shared vision of the CBD regional centers".
  • October 29, 2024: Organization of the 4th meeting of the Copernicea project Steering Committee which will highlight the progress made and draw the prospects for phase 2 of the project.

Bilateral meetings will initiate innovative debates, promote the exchange of ideas and develop concrete action plans.
