The OSS attends the African Union side event on « Inter- regional engagement to inform unified policy making in sustainable land management, restoration and the Great Green Wall Initiative in the dry lands.», Rio Pavilion, 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. May 18, 20

This event brought together experts, international development officials and partners to share their visions on how to support the Great Green Wall Initiative. Its goal was to contribute to achieving Land Degradation Neutrality.


Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the OSS spoke, as a panelist, alongside the PAGGW Executive Secretary, the Ministers of the beneficiary countries, the UNCCD and UNDP representatives, to highlight their contribution in the implementation of programs in the GGW area of action making it possible for several countries to carry out water resources mobilization actions for agricultural development, adaptation to climate hazards, and development of Monitoring-Evaluation tools for field activities.


During this event, strengthening the results-based coordination and operationalizing the working group created to support national agencies and achieve the 2030 GGW ambitions, were placed on top of the agenda.


Mrs. Ndeye Fatou MAR will co-animated the event with Mr. Elvis Paul Tangem, Coordinator of the African Union Commission.


It is worth recalling that the GGWI was launched to combat land degradation and desertification through the implementation of sustainable land management programs.
