OSS proceeds with the second AdaptWAP supervision mission, June 2022

Second step: Benin

During the second step of the mission, OSS delegation led by Ms. Khaoula Jaoui (head of mission), who was supported by Mr. Aziz Belhamra and Mr. Youssef Kraiem, went to Cotonou, from June 17 to 21, where it held working sessions with the project team at CENAGREF, that was led by the Director General Mr. Abdel Aziz BABA-MOUSSA.

The main discussed topics focused on the need of the project team to get its capacity building enhanced, on the one hand, and on the importance of taking into consideration the current national context while planning the field activities, on the other hand.

In this perspective, and in the light of the new strategy for livestock breeders’ sedentarization, a working session was set up in the offices of the Republic of Benin Presidency, with the High Commissioner for the sedentarization of livestock breeders, Dr. Adamou MAMA SAMBO, to appraise these new orientations during the project implementation phase.

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development where it met with Mr. Martin Pépin AINA, General Director of Environment and Climate, and National Focal Point for the Adaptation Fund, as well as his team members. This meeting focused on the progress of the project implementation as well as on the first findings of the mission. It was also an opportunity to exchange of views on the different initiatives that OSS is conducting for the benefit of Benin.

Discussions also focused on the preparations for the participation in the next CoP, scheduled for November of this year in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

The coordinator took this opportunity to offer the GD a copy of the latest book on ecosystems in Africa that OSS wrote on its 30th anniversary.
