Before the start of the 8th edition of TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) that took place in Tunisia on August 27 - 28, 2022, the Africa-Japan Symposium on Society, Science and Technology (AFJASSST) was convened with the participation of Mr. AbdelKader DODO, Water Department Coordinator at the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS), especially in the works of the "Water, Environment, Diversity and Sustainability” panel and workshop, on August 25, 2022.
This edition was held with the aim of discussing economic growth, sustainable development, human security and governance.
It highlighted the need to integrate African priorities in the international cooperation agendas, to mobilize support for African development initiatives, and to promote cooperation between Asia and Africa.
Mr. DODO, took the floor to welcome the proposal of carrying the voice of Africa to the Conference on the Midterm comprehensive review of the implementation of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018–2028", to be held in New York on March 24 - 28, 2023.
He also highlighted the importance of capacity building for new water managers, establishing Centres of Excellence, and developing water clusters. The interest of water demand sustainable management and nature-based management to face the use of unconventional water, was also brought to light.
The official TICAD8 event of the APII "TUNISIA TICAD INNOVATION", which took place on September 1, 2022 at the Laïco hotel, gave room for exchanges on water security and climate change adaptation, sustainable desalination, and renewed water: Treatment and Valuation.
