The recent Sub-Regional Meeting for North Africa on the Technical Advisory Committee/Technical Experts Committee of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), held on April 16th and 17th, 2024 in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, was a key moment for water sector policymakers and experts in the region.
This meeting, organized in collaboration with the Vice-Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of AMCOW for the North Africa region, brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including government representatives, technical experts, civil society actors, and international partners.
The main objective of the meeting was to facilitate an exchange of experiences and ideas, as well as to define strategic priorities for the region in water management. Topics discussed included water and sanitation challenges, sustainable development goals, and ongoing regional and international initiatives.
The OSS's online engagement, alongside its active participation in discussions, was characterized by the sharing of its regional priorities, expertise, and best practices in sustainable water resource management within the context of climate change. The organization underscored its dedication to an inclusive and participatory approach, thereby fostering constructive dialogue and bolstered collaboration among diverse stakeholders within the water sector.
Moreover, this convening served as a platform for the OSS to enhance its presence within regional and international institutions, furthering its advocacy as a driver for sustainable development in the region.
The OSS remains fully committed to this momentum and pledges to continue this fruitful collaboration to address water challenges in North Africa.
